KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.—April 23, 2010—The drive to share information across boundaries has helped make SharePoint the fastest growing product in Microsoft history, Steve Aylward, General Manager, U.S. Healthcare & Life Sciences Group for Microsoft, told more than 350 attendees from pharmaceutical and life sciences companies at the first ShareFEST 2010 conference.

The two-day conference in Philadelphia was presented by NextDocs, the leading provider of SharePoint-based document and quality management software solutions for life sciences companies, in conjunction with Microsoft. More than 350 delegates from over one hundred life sciences companies and 23 vendors attended the conference. Companies represented at the conference included Pfizer, Novartis, Sanofi-Aventis, Becton Dickinson and Shire Pharmaceuticals and many attendees came from outside the US, including Canada and Europe.

“The spirit of community at ShareFEST was exhilarating,” said Zikria Syed, CEO of NextDocs. “SharePoint is all about collaboration and it was gratifying to see people representing every kind of life sciences company, from multinational pharmaceuticals to smaller biotechs, exchanging ideas and their best practices on using SharePoint to meet mission critical regulatory, clinical and compliance needs. We’re pleased we could be a catalyst to bring so many people together.”

Aylward’s keynote address kicked off two days of case studies and presentations on how SharePoint is driving innovation in healthcare delivery, regulatory compliance and collaboration. Many of the speakers detailed how using SharePoint helps them handle masses of documents from participants around the world without having to develop a complex, customized platform.

“It was exciting to be part of an event where the common thread among companies from every part of the life sciences spectrum was the use of SharePoint to help solve key challenges faced in the industry,” Aylward said. “This inaugural ShareFEST conference was a superb venue with which to showcase the value of the SharePoint platform and highlight new features and capabilities included in SharePoint 2010.”

Key for many presenters was their use of SharePoint, which is frequently employed to meet complex regulatory and compliance needs, to also unite external and internal participants. Patricia Brady, of Sanofi-Aventis, noted that healthcare reform and the increasing emphasis on electronic medical records means companies will need to transition to electronic collaboration as early as possible.

Cranford, NJ – March 10, 2010 – Paragon Solutions, a business consulting and information technology services firm, announced the launch of solutions to optimize clinical operations incorporating the NextDocs product suite. The clinical solutions combine the best of breed capabilities of the two partners to deploy low-risk, accelerated solutions for life sciences built on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.

“With the growing adoption of SharePoint within Life Sciences organizations, companies are looking for solution accelerators that leverage enterprise platforms to optimize the end-to-end drug development process,” said Ravi Shankar, vice president of Paragon’s Life Sciences practice. “NextDocs extends SharePoint with off-the-shelf capabilities that complement our Clinical Optimization solution strategy,” he said.

The solutions leverage a strategic partnership formed by the companies in September 2009. One of the solutions the companies are introducing as part of the Clinical Optimization Solution portfolio is an integrated investigator portal. The portal is designed to deliver a collaborative environment that enables clinical sponsors and investigators to: negotiate contracts; define and communicating protocols; support site monitoring; manage grants; work with partners; and improve oversight and planning.

Zikria Syed, CEO of NextDocs stated, “Aligning with Paragon’s deep understanding of life science processes and expertise in clinical optimization with NextDocs’ industry-leading software modules will allow for fast deployment of next generation clinical solutions.”

“The partnership between NextDocs and Paragon is a prime example of how Microsoft’s partner ecosystem can provide life sciences organizations with domain expertise and ready to deploy solutions for regulated environments,” said Michael Naimoli, director, Life Sciences Industry Solutions, Microsoft.

Paragon, a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner, delivers on the next generation of full-lifecycle information management solutions for pharmaceutical R&D. Combining over 28 years of integration expertise and Life Sciences industry knowledge with Microsoft’s product architecture and NextDocs’ application modules, Paragon defines and implements holistic, strategic solutions that enable collaboration and knowledge management, compliance and information governance, records management, archiving, consolidation and integration.

Provides Life Sciences Companies Rapid Deployment Based on DIA Reference Model
RAPS Annual Conference & Exhibition, Philadelphia, PA – September 16, 2009 – NextDocs Corporation today announced the availability of Version 3.6 of its NextDocs Regulatory Document Management System. Version 3.6 will ship with pre-configured support and full validation documentation for the DIA Electronic Document Management (EDM) Reference Model. In addition, NextDocs provides a complete set of fully-configured sample implementations including folder structures, document types and metadata that embody best practices and standard deployment scenarios. With these innovations, Version 3.6 allows life sciences companies to deploy and validate Microsoft Office SharePoint Server-based document and quality management solutions very rapidly.

“Companies today do not have the time or resources available to start from scratch when implementing solutions for SOPs, regulatory documents or clinical documents, and it does not make sense to do so. Our customers are looking for guidance on implementing standard processes with industry best practices in the shortest amount of time and with the least involvement of resources,” said Matt Walz, the Chief Technical Officer at NextDocs. “With pre-built, sample implementations and ready-to-use validation scripts, Version 3.6 compresses the implementation schedule and allows customers to quickly validate their document management environment.”

“Life sciences firms want to deploy compliance solutions faster and more easily,” said Michael Naimoli, the U.S. life sciences industry solutions director at Microsoft Corp. “With incorporation of support for the DIA EDM Reference Model and a set of sample implementations, Version 3.6 of the NextDocs Regulatory Document Management System provides an out-of-the-box solution that can be implemented far more efficiently than traditional, legacy document management systems.”

“The DIA Reference Models represent a common approach to implementing regulatory and clinical content management solutions by standardizing system specifications and configurations,” said Chet Shemanski, Director of Product Management, NextDocs. “NextDocs is committed to helping our customers adopt the standard taxonomy provided by the reference model by providing pre-configured document inventories, metadata models, lifecycles, workflows and other artifacts that are in direct alignment with the Reference Model.”

The DIA EDM reference Model is an initiative being driven by a DIA committee driven by the belief that, according to its charter, “that the time has come for our industry to develop a taxonomy/metadata reference model for electronic document management.” NextDocs is a strong supporter of the initiative, because it allows customers to leverage a standard set of structures rather than developing their own information structures.
